Abhorrent

[edit]

"The murder of children is considered a particularly[citation needed] abhorrent crime in most[citation needed] societies; they are perceived within their communities and the state at large as being vulnerable[citation needed], and therefore especially susceptible to abduction and murder."

Are there many societies that don't consider it abhorrent? Are there many societies where children are not particularly vulnerable? I'm not editing the page prior to a discussion, but I don't think having 'citation needed' three times in one sentence really helps this page, especially given the topic at hand. Bratstar (talk) 23:07, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I put the tag after 'particularly' and not at the end was that with particularly being there, it makes it seem as if most societies view child murder as being worse than other murder which is what I think needs cited.

It is not so much whether children are vulnerable but whether they are perceived as such that is in dispute. In any case, vulnerable can apply to multiple contexts. This, I think, is the tag that should go if any.

I probably was overkill but it shows exactly which parts of the sentence are the disputed parts. Now they can just come to the talk page though. Munci (talk) 10:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cases

[edit]

Guys, I think we need more cases of child murder put on this list. All we have on the list are cases of child murder from Texas, California, and Northern Europe. WhisperToMe 18:58, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)

Child emperors and collective

[edit]

I have in my mind the killing of child emperors and the collective capital punishment in ancient China. Are those qualified as Child murder? wshun 07:10, 18 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Moral panic

[edit]

"These moral panics have tended to obscure those rare cases where actual pedophile gangs have acted to prey upon children."

This statement seems inconsistent with the article on pedophilia. The wording, specifically, seems rather loaded.

Thoughts?

Abortion

[edit]

Abortion is linked to "practices of systematically killing very young children." That seems a little biased, don't you think?

Nope. If you define "child" as "a human being between birth and puberty", then it's inaccurate. If you define "child" as "an offspring, a son or daughter", then it's a pretty basic biological fact. These are two different, definitions, yet both are considered correct. Either way, it's right or wrong, but not biased. 75.118.170.35 (talk) 16:09, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Freddy Krueguer

[edit]

Shouldn't the article have a section of child murder in popular culture, about Freddy Krueger?-SCB '92 (talk) 12:26, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia, like any encyclopaedia, ought to be comprehensive in coverage, therefore should not this article's cover be somewhat wider. It's only a hunch of mine, but aren't human rights violations against children more numerous in non-western parts of the planet, not necessarily because those parts are worse than the west but because they are five times more numerous ? This then suggests that, quite possibly, more child murders occur there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.192.181.90 (talk) 09:28, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A statistic

[edit]

The intro gives us this grizzly bit of trivia:

"In 2008, there were 1,494 child (under 18 years) homicides in the United States."

... the number of child homicides in some country in some year. Need such specifics be included in the intro ... at all?

Computer science?

[edit]

Why is "Computer science" in the "See also" list? What's the connection? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArMaP (talkcontribs) 23:53, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
