samples

[edit]

In case anyone cares, I'm deleting the line that says that this album abandons samples from kung-fu movies. It's simply not true. The album prominently features samples from John Woo's "The Killer." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.69.221.67 (talk) 21:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed some of the samples in Ice Water that weren't correct, Please don't post unconfirmed samples. I'm very hesitant about the sample that's being claimed for Ice Cream too. I've listened many times to sample and can't make it out. I will soon remove it too if it can't be confirmed.--Patriquino (talk) 14:56, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

title

[edit]

try as i might, i've never been able to make sense of this album title. What exactly is it supposed to mean? What is "cuban linx" and what is the thing that is is built for it? This is not a joke i've really never understood this.

i think it's Wu-Tang Forever on which one of the clan says "we told you... we was only built for Cuban linx...", but i can't remember who or which track, i'll come back and update this if i find it while listening. Also since there's a whole cocaine/Pablo Escobar thing going on i wouldn't be that surprised if the links to Cuba were something to do with moving large amounts of high-quality ching W guice 18:58, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The title was originally "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Niggaz" it's not hard to understand, Cuban Linx are those thick chains people used to wear in the 80s that symbolized the money & power they had. It was only them that wore it. In that same sense, their music was only for them. They took the Niggaz part out because politically it wouldn't be allowed, so that's why there are those dots at the end.

track 8 wrong?

[edit]

im not sure, but is track number 8 supposed to be a remix? the original being done by the Wu-Tang Clan??

Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx - 08 - Can It Be All So Simple [Remix] with a lenght of 5:38?

Yes, it's a remix, the original which was on Wu-Tang's debut album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" featured only Raekwon and Ghostface anyway; they just redid it on this album with a different order of verses. Oh, and by the way, I hope you're not asking so you can download it, you might as well just buy this top 5 classic.--Tainted Drifter 07:24, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The verses are also different from the original, not simply reordered.--Vlad the Impaler (talk) 21:11, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The remix also has a redone beat with better quality

ODB is not in North Star (Jewels)

[edit]

In the chart that has the tracks and who preforms in the songs, it says the Ol' Dirty Bastard is in the song "North Star (Jewels)" but I have just now listened to the song twice and I do not hear him in it.

Ol' Dirty Bastard is in North Star, he is singing in the background "we've got the power to resurrect the dead". 86.142.223.81 16:14, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way of knowing whether that is ODB singing? I know ODB has been known to sing in the backgrounds of other songs and skits (such as in "Killa Hills 10304" on GZA's Liquid Swords), but there are a ton of Wu affiliates that also sing. I've never heard ODB sing that well on any other album. He's usually much more warbly and off key. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vlad the Impaler (talkcontribs) 21:14, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

im pretty sure that is NOT Ol Dirty Bastard. youre right ODB is too off key for that to be him. i have changed it until a citation refers to him actually being on the track. AlexLoeher (talk) 20:05, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I stand corrected then haha. it would have helped to have seen this information sooner ;) AlexLoeher (talk) 04:57, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Raekwon only.jpg

[edit]

Image:Raekwon only.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wu - Gambinos

[edit]

I thought that the part in this article where it describes who's who in the wu-gambinos was pretty useful when listening to the album. Although I agree that it might not be perfectly suited for this article, but shouldn't there be someplace on wikipedia where you could get this info? I'd think a wu-gambinos article or a redirection to the page with wu tang associates (where the wu-gambinos part should be included) would be reasonable. Should I try making such a page myself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Barbarne (talkcontribs) 18:27, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Richmond Times review

[edit]

Transcription using Google News Advanced News Archive Search. Richmond Times (Clark, Mike. E.9. September 1, 1995) review of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… (1995):

Wu-Tang again and again: Once more a warrior of the clan has put out a soon-to-be-chart-topping album. The long-awaited album from the chief has finally been released, and not a moment too soon. With the lyrical novelties of Raekwon (combining smooth background bass, vocals and rhythms and his phenomenal style of lyrics mixed with his characteristic, distinct voice) this makes for the best Wu solo album yet.

Tracklist

[edit]

Why was the tracklist look changed? The old one looked much better Tashivana (talk) 14:45, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I personally think its easier to read and the whole huge table just seems unnecessary. Everything is still there so i don't see the problem. But i understand everyone has a different preference. Koala15 (talk) 23:23, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
