Age of Love

[edit]

We should add something in terms of his personal life since he will be starring in NBC's new reality show, the age of love

Scud?

[edit]

I was of the understanding that the nickname "The Scud" was made up to try to dissuade people from calling him "The Poo" due to Mark's objections to such a excremental nickname, yet this is not mentioned in the article.. Anonymous 21:32 AEDST

You sure, the Poo is only a recent nickname, popular around 2003. He's been known as the Scud all his career due to the sound it makes when he serves at 220-odd k/s an hour. Rogerthat 02:02, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find a reference, but he doesn't like the nick name "scud" either. It was a comparison to the Iraqi missiles used during the first gulf war and was a reference to the missiles' destructive although erratic nature. Mark's preferred nick name is "Flip". Codeviolation 18:30, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, he doesn't particurlary like the nickname Scud and perfers his mates to call him "Flip". If my memory serves me correctly, the name Scud was coined by John Newcombe. This would also explain why he doesn't like it! Unfortunatley the nickname has stuck.

"fast women"

[edit]

"...reported penchant for fast cars...and fast women"

Ok... that parallelism seems a bit forced. It gives me a different idea than what the author is possibly conveying. --Menchi 10:16, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Somebody took "fast" out. --Menchi 04:39, 4 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I've done this so many times already so I'm not going to do it to this article, but can someone please re-order the events in decending order? Thanks. dave 03:53, 4 Dec 2003 (UTC)

We need a standard infobox for tennis players

[edit]

We need a standard infobox for tennis players. Height does not fit into the text. It needs an infobox. --Hemanshu 04:51, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Cleanup (tagged since January 2006)

[edit]

I tagged this article for cleanup for two reasons:

  1. A lot of it is unencyclopedic (e.g. "Philippoussis' style of play is to hit every shot hard, and this accomplished by his amazing natural ability. Many players hit serves hard, but only Mark Philippoussis can hit a groundstroke at the same speed.")
  2. The statistics need formatting

Fastest Serve

[edit]

Why is there no mention made in this article that (at least at some point in his career) Mark Philippoussis was notoriously known as having the fastest serve? (I've just added it after his personal best serve speed) 74.12.81.69 04:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Style

[edit]

Was this written by someone that writes for True Hollywood Story? "The honeymoon period with the Australian public, however, did not last."? This style seems wholly inappropriate. FilmFemme 18:42, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seniors

[edit]

Why isn't there anything about his seniors tour career where he lost to Mcenroe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.102.73 (talk) 03:47, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Active?

[edit]

Actually how is he active? His last tournament (according to the article) was in February 2010, almost two years ago. Though it can be possible this article has not been edited since that. Strangely there is a claim "This page was last modified on 12 January 2012 at 07:23.", surely that can mean anything. 82.141.93.98 (talk) 13:21, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nick’s rape charges

[edit]

What is the consensus on adding a brief mention of former tennis coach Nick Philippoussis’ rape charges to the article? Nick is, of course, Mark’s father. Cheers. Rovingrobert (talk) 14:14, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
