I like what I'm seeing on your user page (The Steenrod operations article). Do you plan to add more to it before posting it? It already looks worthy to me. Also, I've been wondering if you know when we will finally be able to make diagrams in wikipedia. It would be nice if we could standardize on a diagramming package on wikipedia so that the diagrams have a consistent look. My vote is for something at least as powerful as the xymatrix feature in XY-Pic. - Gauge 22:49, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the feedback. I think it is about ready as well, just want to proofread (I get really confused about some of these equations, want to make sure I don't lie). There are many pages about with TeX-y looking commutative diagrams, but I don't know how to do this for Wikipedia. I use XY-Pic as well, something like that would be great... but I don't know how far away that might be. Dave Rosoff 08:30, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, you seem to be new around here -- welcome aboard. Since you're going to have to drop out of school for Wikipedia anyhow, you'll have lots of spare time, so may I prevail on you to spend a little more time on the new technical articles you create? It would help everyone if you would follow the suggested format of (in the first paragraph and in words the ordinary person at the mall can understand) defining the term, specifying what field(s) of knowledge it belongs to, and explaining briefly why it matters enough to be in an encyclopedia. (And when you run across one of the many existing articles that lacks this info, would you please edit it in?) And don't be afraid to edit math articles mercilessly -- lots of people here speak math, but they don't all explain it in English as well, and folks who don't speak math can't edit the math articles very well. -- isis 09:56 Nov 8, 2002 (UTC)

Hi there, and welcome. Hope you'll have as much fun here as the rest of us. You might be interested in List of mathematical topics; if you go there and click on "Watch links" in the sidebar, you'll see the recent changes in math articles. Cheers, AxelBoldt

Suggestions noted: thank you both. -- alodyne

Yet another welcome, Alodyne :) . Since you seem to have an interest in the mathematics articles, I wanted to call to your attention the WikiProject we're developing at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics, which attempts to provide some standards and goals for math articles. Contributions requested and welcomed! Chas zzz brown 21:50 Dec 1, 2002 (UTC)

January 15 Seattle meetup

Just wanted to let you know we are planning another Seattle meetup on January 15, 2005. We're trying to get a sense of who will attend, so please drop by that page & leave a note. -- Jmabel | Talk 01:27, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

User categorization

[edit]

Greetings, Alodyne! Please accept this message as an invitation to categorize your user page in the category Category:Wikipedians in Washington and removing your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page. The page will be deleted when all users have been removed. Even if you do not wish to be placed in a category, could you take a moment to remove your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page? Thanks!!

To add your name to the category, please use the tag [[Category:Wikipedians in Washington|Alodyne]] to ensure proper sorting.

For more information, please see Wikipedia:User categorisation and Category:Wikipedians by location. -- Roby Wayne Talk • Hist 04:29, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your copyedit flag for Forward Castes article

[edit]

Refer copyedit flag inserted by you in Forward Castes article. I have made few changes like spellcheck, subsequent words capitalisations, grammar check etc. Can you review and offer further suggestions in Talk page. If you are satisfied you can remove copyedit flage

I have seen your edits to change tone of Forward Caste article. It is good and improving. As suggested you can proceed with copy editing of full article. I will then modify if meaning of some sentences changed. Thanks for your assistance.--Lravikumar 02:19, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematics CotW

[edit]

Hey Alodyne, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks--Cronholm144 20:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect diagram in the Bialgebra article

[edit]

This comultiplication and unit diagram in the Bialgebra article is wrong. Either the names and should be swapped and ditto for and . Or the arrow's direction should be changed, and the names and be swapped. So if you get some time over, you could perhaps fix it. Btw, is it not better to use LaTeX to generate diagrams rather than use pre-created images? 85.224.16.221 (talk) 23:08, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I will fix this when I get a chance. At the time I made this article the "precreated" images were the only ones I knew how to make. I did make them using latex and tex2gif. What did you have in mind? Alodyne (talk) 23:17, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group

[edit]

Hello. I can tell that you are a PhD student, but I wasn't sure where. If you are in the Seattle area it would be great if you could join us.

I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided - one is April 8 (Wednesday) starting at 6 pm and the other is April 18 (Saturday) starting at 10 am. (Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration.) Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 03:52, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Alodyne, I am writing you to get a more precise reference on something you wrote about the nerve of a category. There you said that it is possible to study morphisms between two objects in a category by constructing what you called and looking at an "appropriate model category". I would like you to be more precise about this, keeping in mind that my principal interest is with the category of commutative algebras over a field with dimension ≤1. I do thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.77.66.130 (talk) 11:29, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
