My original final paragraph for this stub read

'Most steak and oyster lovers have one of two reactions to this dish, either delight or disgust. As one French food lover commented on being served this local delicacy while visiting Sydney, "Steak, yes, oysteres, yes, but nevere togethere" (sic).'

which is accurate, and IMO a valid and informative comment. Somehow I'm not surprised it was removed, and I won't start an edit war over it. But I'd be delighted if anyone else wanted to put it back, and in any case IMO the removed text should have been put in the talk page with the reason for its removal, or at least a comment placed in the summary field of the edit. POV and not-verifiable. Anthony DiPierro 02:14, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
If Andrew is willing to cite a source it becomes verifiable, and is stated as being one food critic's opinion, so the NPOV is maintained. Gentgeen 03:06, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)

No longer served?

I am informed by sn Australian friend that this dish disappeared from restaurant menus some years ago. I have no personal knwledge.71.191.119.35 (talk) 01:46, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They stopped selling it because of health risks involved with eating it. I can't remember but it could cause some disease and they all stopped making it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.184.86 (talk) 16:45, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From my research this dish originated in the UK, but became popular in America and Austrailia. See this http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=fnveo8cyxKkC&lpg=PA426&dq=portmanteau%20%2B%20lamb&pg=PA104#v=onepage&q=carpet&f=false

I think this whole article is woefully inadequate - I recommend a moderator read this -
