[edit]

When uploading images please always edit the image description page and do two things:

  1. State the source of the image (created yourself, the address of a web page or another source.)
  2. State the copyright. The easiest way to list the copyright is to use a copyright tag. The most important tags are {{GFDL}}, {{PD}}, and {{fairuse}}. GFDL is for images that you create yourself. PD is for public domain images (pre-1923 in most cases). Fair use is for copyrighted images that we can use under the fair use rules in the USA.

Without proper source and copyright information images will eventually be deleted!Zeimusu | Talk 15:20, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

This is where you go for image copyright tags: Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. I notice that you have changed the TIDEL Park image back to the one you uploaded. Please tag the following images: [1], [2], and [3]. If you downloaded them from a website, please cite the source and copyright/license terms. -- Brhaspati (talk, contribs) 10:40, 2005 Feb 21 (UTC)

Image deletion warning The image Image:Chennai-map.jpg has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. If you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, please provide the necessary information.

The images Image:Chennai central.jpg and Image:Chennai corp.jpg have been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because they are suspected copyright violations. If you know that the images are legally usable on Wikipedia, please provide the necessary information.

BTW you seem to be new here. Welcome to Wikipedia! You might want to review Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors' rights and obligations so you could understand a bit of copyright laws and find out how to state clearly that you are using copyrighted content with permission, in case you do that. -- Paddu 13:59, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
You might be pleased to know that I wrote to the copyright-holder of these images, Frederik Questier, asking for permission to use his South-India photos under the GFDL, and he kindly released his South-India photos under the GFDL. -- Paddu 14:46, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The image you had uploaded of the MA Chidambaram stadium is currently tagged as fairuse. Is this a fair representation of the situation? I see that you have downloaded it from a cricket club at the University of Alabama. Could you email them and get them to release it under some free license (GFDL preferred)? Thanks -- Brhaspati\talk/contribs 06:46, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

I've changed "fair use" to "no license", because I don't see any fair use justification. This means that it will be deleted in seven days, unless you can produce a fair use justification, or show that we have permission to use it. Thanks, Stephen Turner (Talk) 20:14, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Marina aerial.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. BRossow 17:32, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chennai.central.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

Welcome, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. An image you have uploaded, File:Chennai.kapaleeswar2.jpg, was marked as having been released into the public domain by the copyright holder, but no evidence of this release has been provided. If notice of the release is on the copyright holder's website, please link to it in the image summary. If the release is a response to a request for copyright permission, the full request and response must be forwarded to OTRS. If you need help in composing a request, the example requests for permission may be helpful. Thank you. -- Robert Weemeyer (talk) 13:34, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
