The original article made it seem like alphabetical order was the main convention, which really is not the case. As this page is the first hit in google when you search for "Poker High Card By Suit" (!), I thought that there should be a little more information on other conventions. Also, I read somewhere that this suit order is different in other countries. Can anyone confirm/deny? Thanks -DropDeadGorgias 15:22 30 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I copied the preceding remarks from DropDeadGorgias from the discussion page for High card by suit when I merged that article into this one. Pat Berry 23:46, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I can't get the (poker) in the blind link gone! The preview does it, but it won't go away! Some software glitch, I guess. Revolver 07:39, 23 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article seems to be missing references such as the claim that high card by suit is "never" used to resolve a tie. I'm not saying that's not true, but I'd like a direct credible reference.153.90.194.206 (talk) 19:03, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This entire article is bogus

I'll just leave this here:

https://www.i-p-c-s.org/faq/suit-ranking.php

[There are] different ways that the suits are ranked in different games. Here are a few off the top of my head (rank from high to low in each case):

  • hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades: Preference, 500, Tysiacha
  • clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds: Skat, Doppelkopf, Sheepshead
  • spades, hearts, clubs, diamonds: Big Two (Choi Dai Di, Da Lao Er)
  • diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs: Pusoy Dos
  • clubs, hearts, spades, diamonds: Ninety-nine
  • spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs: Contract Bridge

https://www.pagat.com/poker/rules/ranking.html

Although the order spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs may seem natural to Bridge players and English speakers, other suit orders are common, especially in some European countries. Up to now, I have come across:

  • spades (high), hearts, clubs, diamonds (low)
  • spades (high), diamonds, clubs, hearts (low)
  • hearts (high), spades, diamonds, clubs (low) (in Greece and in Turkey)
  • hearts (high), diamonds, spades, clubs (low) (in Austria and in Sweden)
  • hearts (high), diamonds, clubs, spades (low) (in Italy)
  • diamonds (high), spades, hearts, clubs (low) (in Brazil)
  • diamonds (high), hearts, spades, clubs (low) (in Brazil)
  • clubs (high), spades, hearts, diamonds (low) (in Germany)
