Protect?

[edit]

Should this be protected? I fully support WP:MOS, that both spellings are absolutely equally acceptable, so on one hand, one shouldn't restrict editor's options. On the other hand, short of consensus to move, it's a waste of time for people to fork or copy-n-paste move color to here, and it seems to be happening every couple days lately. --Interiot 02:59, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Protected deleted pages seems to more or less support the use of protection in this case (it is a frequently recreated fork, after all). Also, since there's more than one revision, if it was ever decided that color should be moved to colour, an admin would be required anyway (probably after a discussion at Wikipedia:Requested moves, since it's not a non-controversial move). --23:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Americanism

[edit]

Colour spelt without the U is an Americanism, which means that this spelling is only allowed in one country. The rest of the world spells it in the proper way, so shouldn't it be Colour, not Color? Sven the llama 02:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Talk:Color for the endless and ongoing discussion over color-vs-colour. If a move did ever happen, consensus would have to form over there first. (but only because most people have that page watchlisted, not this one; not because "Talk:Color" is superior to "Talk:Colour" in any way) --Interiot 03:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an outrage. The citizens of the United State of America (it is not comprised of every state on the continent of America...) you are an ungrateful lot. You are given a language and you have to change it. Why ? to be different. Now you are trying to change to change English to American. If Colour cannot exist, then damn it I want you to see the world without IT. Oh and Interiot - can you find the flaw in your english expression above. I will give you a hint ( double negative) --if you cannot find it, it is contained in "Since it's not a non-controversial move))." Not a non-.... I think you mean it would be a .. oh never mind. Go read Orwell on the decline of the English language. --dbmoodb 11:52, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is so special about America? Have they ever noticed that they are the only country that uses "color". That would be like putting the tire page with "tyre", because the people of the UK spell it like that. Color should without doubt be moved to colour. 1bevingtonco (talk) 16:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I demand an English entry on Wikipedia. The Cornish get one the Americans should be constrianed to an "American" entry its not hard, if you want to call your language English rename your country England and be done with it else rename your language American / USAish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by James.robinson (talkcontribs) 22:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "Color" should be moved to "Colour" also. The United States is the only English-speaking country that spells it as "color". Tlonca (talk) 19:25, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Both color and colour are correct. See your dictionaries. See also wp:ENGVAR and wp:RETAIN. Cheers - DVdm (talk) 15:58, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
