"Timer" instead of "A timer"

[edit]

why does the page start with "Timer" instead of "A timer"? Is there a reason for this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hero of Milk (talkcontribs) 16:34, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A typical mechanical timer (76 years)

[edit]

what on earth does (76 years) mean on the caption of this picture? I mean, is the timer 76 years old? could someone who understands what the caption means fix it or something? jussaying — Preceding unsigned comment added by TSBoncompte (talkcontribs) 20:42, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

software timers ? imagine some application scheduler (high priority thread) which keeps list of running (started) timers and calls hooks supplied by the application when timer expires see also http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/larytet/emLIB/AOS/aosTimer.h?rev=1.1&view=markup

Electronic timer

[edit]

Why aren't analogue electronic timers included in the article? Although not accurate a simple RC ckt along with a BJT can act as a timer... Rohitbd 14:35, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean quartz analog timers like [1]? I might as well go ahead and fix it. [|Retro00064 | (talk/contribs) |] 05:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Egg timer should be merged into this article

No consensus to merge. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:17, 6 June 2010 (UTC) I have noticed that there are two Wikipedia articles on timers: Timer, this article, and Egg timer, the article that needs to be merged into this one. The articles seem to have a bit of overlap. This article could easily have a section entitled "Egg timers" that gives detailes about true "egg timers" (timers that have a maximum setting of 3 minutes) and the fact that people often incorrectly call regular kitchen timers (timers that have a maximum setting of more than 3 minutes) "egg timers". The 2 articles don't even link to each other. To create some consistency, the aticles should be merged. I can already imagine what the merged article would look like. bad idea--76.116.105.50 (talk) 02:38, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is a good idea. The Egg timer article isn't very big, and has some bad pictures now. I am adding some pictures to the timer article, and agree with your idea of merging Hustvedt (talk) 00:00, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's about time I got around to this! I'm going to try to merge the articles soon, and then I will try to get the article listed at WikiProject Time. [|Retro00064 | (talk/contribs) |] 05:47, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Merge. I was looking for basic timers and entered 'timers' in Google. It gave me the Wiki site, where I expected to see candle-timers, water-timers, sand-timers and egg-timers etc. as well as more modern timers. But all of these were missing! Please merge! Or, if the egg-timer article is huge, at least put a brief mention of them on the 'timer' page, and then put a link to the full article. --Observer29 (talk) 16:43, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i dont think egg timers should put in cos they are the same as a mechanical timer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.60.223.194 (talk) 09:46, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't Egg timer be merged into Hourglass instead? Alksentrs (talk) 11:51, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent idea. True 'egg timers' are actually just a type of hourglass. [|Retro00064|☎talk|✍contribs|] 23:38, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with the merge notion. Not all 3-minute egg-timers are types of hourglasses. Few hourglasses are egg-timers set to exactly 3 minutes. The size is obviously radically different, but more importantly, the environment (setting) is completely different. --Connel MacKenzie - wikt 23:08, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
