"The Junkman" movie

[edit]

The movie The Junkman could probably be mentioned, as the movie in itself is a kind of giant car chase. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.219.171.178 (talk) 14:39, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cost to State?

[edit]

Was cost to state fictional or real? If it's real, could it possibly be mentioned in this article?Drakonis (talk) 21:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mcq.JPG

[edit]

Image:Mcq.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]

The image File:Burninrubber4.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This article sucks

[edit]

It's chock-full of OR. Someone who cares, help me with this. AniRaptor2001 02:39, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum

[edit]

this movie takes place in Classical Rome, before there were cars, so I doubt there is a car chase. can anyone confirm? 67.176.160.47 (talk) 05:18, 22 March 2010 (UTC) Since when was their are car chase is Teasure Planet? The Gumball Rally http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gumball_Rally Why is this film not on the list? Personally, I think a lot of the inclusions in the list, particularly in the recent years, don't qualify as 'car chase films'. Having a car chase in the film does not mean it's included in a genre that is by and large not used by directors at present. Yak sox (talk) 02:52, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lets not forget the BMW films

POV issues

[edit]

The article discusses the various risks to police officers during these chases, but overlooks the criticism directed as police for recklessly endangering the lives of innocent civilians in pursuit of fleeing criminals. 70.153.123.240 (talk) 17:56, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance issue

[edit]

Is the fact that there were 700 pursuits in 2002 in Los Angeles really relevant? This is a world-wide subject and any data therefore should have a much wider scope than a city. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsurfer04 (talkcontribs) 21:48, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great Article Status declared

[edit]

You know, this is a great article. It has zero encylopedic merit, and it's just a bunch of non-third party OR information. But - I wanted to know about the first car chases in movies, I came to this article, and I learned a crapload. People should think about how articles like this add tremendous value to WP as they consider how to govern the project. Thanks to all who edited this, you have done the world a great service!!! 198.101.67.68 (talk) 00:54, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Broader lead sentence needed

[edit]

It reads "A car chase is the vehicular pursuit of suspects by law enforcers." but the chaser is not always the police. Sometimes the car is chasing is full of baddies, like mafia henchmen, paparazzi, or truant officers. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:00, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Police pursuit

[edit]

I was hoping to discover the legal issues and definitions of a Police pursuit but discovered it redirects to this article and that this article focuses on the sensationalism aspect of vehicle chases. The history for the Police pursuit article shows it's always been a redirect.

It's my understanding that when law enforcement is pursuing a suspect on foot and/or vehicle that they don't need a warrant to enter private property while in pursuit. How is the word "pursuit" defined? For example, an Internet crimes task force could be said to be in pursuit of a suspect but I doubt that gives them the right to kick down the person's front door without a warrant as they were "in pursuit". I imagine that the topic of "pursuit" has been brought up many times in criminal law. This article has a section on "Inter-jurisdictional pursuits and policy issues" but it did not mention the legal aspects related to pursuits outside of a jurisdiction. If a suspect disappears then at what point, legally, is it not considered a pursuit? I have found several pursuit related articles:

  • Tennessee v. Garner A Supreme Court of the United States decision that, under the Fourth Amendment, when a law enforcement officer is pursuing a fleeing suspect, he or she may not use deadly force to prevent escape unless "the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others."
  • Scott v. Harris A Supreme Court of the United States decision involving a lawsuit against a sheriff's deputy brought by a motorist who was paralyzed after the officer ran his eluding vehicle off the road during a high-speed car chase.
  • Mullenix v. Luna A Supreme Court of the United States decision that a police officer who shot a suspect during a police pursuit was entitled to qualified immunity.
  • Skye's Law An Australian law that makes attempts to flee police a crime in itself.

I did not spot anything about how "pursuit" is defined but would not be surprised if there are multiple SCOTUS cases in that area. --Marc Kupper|talk 20:12, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Film section

[edit]

This part should resemble the video game section, but is very long and drawn out with too much detail about a small number of movies. I will begin fixing this section and copyediting the rest of the article as needed. AbelsFriend (talk) 17:31, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
