Major update

[edit]

Dr. Drake was my favorite professor at UCSC, and I thought he deserved more than a stub entry.

So I've made a major update. I added some details of his early life (mostly from http://www.activemind.com/Mysterious/Topics/SETI/biography_drake.html) and expanded on his accomplishments. Hopefully this can get the article out of Stub status. I'll let others decide on that, however. Ocicat 22:14, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ship

[edit]

I've editted the reference to the USS Albany, Originally, someone had pointed the link to the USS Albany (CL-23) and not the correct ship, which is the USS Albany (CA-123). The rational behind my change, is that Dr. Drake was born after the USS Albany CL-23 was scrapped in 1930. So there was no way possible that he could of served on that particular ship. Book review for IS ANYONE OUT THERE?: The Scientific Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence

[edit]

I found a book review for IS ANYONE OUT THERE?: The Scientific Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence

If it has at least two it can get its own article. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:00, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Founder of SETI?

[edit]

The article presently describes him as having founded SETI, but the linked SETI article is about the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence in general, not any specific project or organisation? Should it instead by the SETI Institute? This article mentions him having a leadership role in that institute, but he is not mentioned in the article about the institute. Either way, we shouldn't describe Drake as the founder or director of a research programme which doesn't have a founder or director. MartinPoulter (talk) 09:18, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article does not say he founded SETI. Polyamorph (talk) 09:22, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry. It does in the lead. Hmmm, perhaps that should be revised. Polyamorph (talk) 09:32, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
here is a link to the history of the SETI institute. Polyamorph (talk) 09:35, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing this out. I've modified the lead and the appropriate career section to clarify this, supported by the references already cited.Polyamorph (talk) 09:42, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
