Commons picture of the day
Portrait of a French lady, Magdaleine Pinceloup de la Grange, represented with her Chartreux cat in 1747 by artist Jean-Baptiste Perronneau. Today is International Cat Day.

I started editing Wikipedia in 2001. You won't find my first edits here because I predate MediaWiki, the software that runs Wikipedia. I've been a Wikipedia editor for longer than some Wikipedia editors have been alive.

I keep coming back because humanity keeps finding new ways to spread ignorance and misinformation. The Wikimedia movement is the world's public library and the English-language Wikipedia is its oldest and busiest branch.

I have stopped listing my interests here because the list never gets smaller. I identify as a WikiGnome and find more satisfaction in making improvements to existing articles than creating new ones. You can also find me at the Teahouse, help desk, and IRC, helping other editors improve their work; and patrolling Recent Changes to stamp out vandalism and disruptive editing.

I have access to electronic resources through State Library Victoria, RMIT University Library (alumni membership, fewer resources available than for regular members), and The Wikipedia Library. I am willing to assist with reasonable, fair-dealing resource requests through the Resource Exchange.

Conflicts of interest

[edit]
This user has publicly declared that she has a conflict of interest regarding these Wikipedia articles:

Since mid-2021 I have been employed by the Australian Queer Archives, previously called the Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives. I may update the Archives' name and URL in the References, Further reading, and External links sections of LGBTIQ-related articles as I find them, but will not engage in substantive content editing related to the Archives or any partner organisations.

I am a former member and employee of the Victorian Greens, which is a constituent party of the Australian Greens. I am interested in keeping politics, government, and election content on Wikipedia reliable, respectful, and up-to-date, regardless of policies or beliefs. I watch various political articles for my usual gnomish tasks of citation cleanup, copy-editing, and undoing vandalism. I will seek consensus on substantial reorganisation or rewriting, and will not contribute substantial content to any articles on Greens parties, members, representatives, or candidates for election.

Ongoing tasks

[edit]
To-do list for ClaudineChionh:

Process notes

[edit]

Article assessment

[edit]
  1. Tag sections (or whole article) that need work (Twinkle)
  2. Check categories (HotCat)
  3. Assess (Rater)

Citation cleanup

[edit]
  • First steps:
  • Overview:
    • Is there a References section with correct {{reflist}} usage?
    • Is there a Bibliography section with correct {{citation}} templates used for all items?
    • Do any items in Further reading also appear in References/Bibliography?
    • Are there any External links that should be properly referenced in the main text?
  • Section by section:
    • Fill out or correct {{sfn}} usage if relevant
    • Fill out or correct {{citation}} template usage
    • Change generic citation templates to Specific-source templates where appropriate
    • Verify that citation parameters match the source
  • If I have the time and inclination:
    • Verify that citations back up article text
    • Can I find better sources to replace the unreliable/deprecated ones marked red by CiteHighlighter?

Copy-editing

[edit]
  • Overview:
  • Section by section:
    • Manual of Style
    • General copy-editing: vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • Overview again:
    • Ensure that lead follows body
    • If there is an infobox, is it consistent with article text?
  • Citation cleanup
  • Non-English language topics or sources
    • Consistency of English translation followed by original term
    • Use {{lang}} for plain words and phrases
    • Use {{ill}} for interlanguage links

Toolbox

[edit]

Work-in-progress templates

[edit]
  • {{userspace draft}} for drafts of new articles
  • Notes for major revision/reorganisation of existing articles:
  • {{user sandbox}} for any other notes, syntax experiments, or for collecting other WIP pages

Auto-archive templates

[edit]

Automatically archive a talk page with Lowercase sigmabot III and add a handy {{talk header}}.

Good defaults:

{{User:MiszaBot/config
| archive             = {{SUBST:FULLPAGENAME}}/Archive %(counter)d
| algo                = old(90d)
| counter             =
| maxarchivesize      = 75K
| minthreadsleft      = 2
| minthreadstoarchive =
| archiveheader       =
| key                 =
}}
{{talk header |search=yes}}

One archive page per calendar year:

{{User:MiszaBot/config
| archive             = {{SUBST:FULLPAGENAME}}/Archive %(year)d
| algo                = old(365d)
| counter             =
| maxarchivesize      =
| minthreadsleft      =
| minthreadstoarchive =
| archiveheader       = {{annual archive}}
| key                 =
}}
{{talk header |search=yes}}
{{archived annually}}
