Why does the article say China currently governs Taiwan?

[edit]

I know the China-Taiwan situation is sensitive and a constant topic of debate in Wikipedia, but why does this article stand on its own in referring to China (PRC) as governing Taiwan (ROC)? The Taiwan page refers to Taiwan as a country and makes no mention of China governing it.

I want to change the text in this article to correct this, but I don't want to accidentally start an edit battle with others.

The text I'm referring to is under the "Membership and participation of the Republic of China" heading as "The Republic of China (ROC), which controlled mainland China from 1912 to 1949 and currently governs Taiwan since 1945"
