Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Another IP edit, another round of blatant vandalism (changing the BLP's direct quotation to mean the opposite + changing a location). This under-watched article does not seem to inspire good editing, and I wonder whether it should be semi-protected for a very long time (i.e., long enough for someone to grow up). The last round was three months. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:48, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated disruptive editing and removal of tags from IPs and socks. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:34, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of vandalism due to continuous edits denying the fact they are forgeries in contravention of RS. Makeandtoss (talk) 08:44, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive editing from multiple IPs. Annh07 (talk) 08:45, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

I would like to request that... (Please consider reversing the recent revision made by the User:Gokul BM. The change in range was made without supporting sources, which has affected the accuracy of the ranking.https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_highest-grossing_South_Indian_films&diff=1246147282&oldid=1246147073&variant=en https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_highest-grossing_South_Indian_films&diff=1246147073&oldid=1246002411&variant=en) . W170924 (talk) 19:30, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. I don't see any supporting sources given for any of those numbers in the entire table, so there is no reason to believe that the previous version was more correct than the current version. If you have an issue with a recent edit, then discuss it with that editor. ~Anachronist (talk) 19:53, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist Also, I don’t understand what you meant by 'I don’t see any supporting sources given for any of those numbers in the entire table,' as the Highest-grossing films table is properly sourced except for the entries manipulated by this user. Am I wrong? Did I miss anything? W170924 (talk) 20:49, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist Pardon me, but to be specific, the ranges changed as follows:

    Varisu: ₹290–293 to ₹290–310

    Kabali: ₹284–305 to ₹284–499

    Beast: ₹227–240 to ₹217–300

    Mersal: ₹220 to ₹200–260

Note that before the change, the figures were supported by the references provided in the corresponding ref fields. The new ranges, however, contradict the references because the user did not provide any sources to back their claim. Why is there no consideration of this discrepancy?W170924 (talk) 20:10, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Did you contact the user who made that edit, as I suggested? ~Anachronist (talk) 23:26, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist I dropped a note on the user's talk page, and from the other threads, it’s pretty obvious this person is a serial vandal. The funny part? A vandal can freely run around editing Wikipedia, but if you want to call them out, you’ve got to perform an Olympic-level gymnastics routine. And don’t get me started on the edit count—it gives the impression they’re some kind of Wikipedia veteran! Sure, Wikipedia might slap them with a short ban, but their edit count stays shiny and impressive, like they’ve been building the place brick by brick. W170924 (talk) 03:21, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The contributions of that user doesn't look like a vandal-only account to me, but more like attempts to get information up-to-date without updating the sources. In any case, the edits have been reverted and I left a short warning on the user's talk page. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:45, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks :) W170924 (talk) 05:50, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting immediate archiving... Lectonar (talk) 08:53, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. This is not an edit request, that article doesn't exist, and this is the English Wikipedia. Article titles must be in English. ~Anachronist (talk) 06:43, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
