Two things: "...by destroying all organic life..." Is incorrect, the ring only targets (as 343 himself says) all -sentient- life with a biomass sufficient enough to sustain the flood.

And finally: "343 Guilty Spark incorrectly assumed, for unknown reasons, that the Earth soldier Master Chief was a Reclaimer." Also incorrect, with the release of Halo 2 and the events that has transpired it is now painfully clear that only humans can be reclaimers and that only we can activate Halo's core with the index (and stop the firing). From the story line it is possible that we are the descendants of the original forerunners who escaped/activated the original purge in the "ark" mentioned at the end of Halo 2. -- Cadogan

Should this be "Reclaimer (Halo)"? --OGoncho 04:21, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Marine "Reclaimer"

[edit]

Hay remember at all times that in Halo 1 343 also tried to get a ODST to do the dirty work of getting the index. 343 called him a "Reclaimer" too so its not just genes or armor or specifics that made Spark call the MC a "Reclaimer" it must be more general. Personally i think all humans are "reclaimers" but that is opinion not fact.

The reclaimers were originally beleieved to be the forerunners, this is now clarified as humans are the true reclaimers. This is shown at the end of Halo 2. There are also other references to this throughout much of the halo canon.

Spoliers - Below

This took place tens of thousands of years before the Halo series of games. There was a ancient race called precursors it is beleieved they are resonsible for slipspace travel and all the technology seen in the forerunner universe. There were also 2 possible species that were beleived to be the ancestors of the precusors as well as brother species these were forerunners and humans (this is clarified at a point where it is revealed that precursors gave forerunners life, nothig yet on if they also created humanity. My guess is they did). At somepoint in the far past the forerunners rebelled and killed the precursors. Beleiving they were the only ones to inherit the precursor technology and knowledge. A long time later when this history was conviently forgotten by the forerunners they once again had contact with humans that they always beleived were beneath them, this contact eventually led to war.

Before this had come to pass humanity had expanded and colonized accross the galactic arm and at some point had created an alliance with the San 'Shyuum (thousands of generations later we know them as the covenant prophets, sparking a belief that their hatred to humans was born from the loss of the war tens of thousands of years ago and their own eventual loss of history). During this time humanity doscovered a ancient starship crash site that contained many bottles of dust. After much research it was decided to use the dust as powder and over the course of many generations this powder became the flood. Now with humanity battling the flood on one side of the galaxy and trying to escape to the other side of the galaxy to where there was still some safety humanity entered forerunner space and this sparked a battle. With forces spread thin battling two foes, though humanty was finally able to push the flood back and out of the galaxy the cost was great and it allowed the forerunners victory. This victory allowed the forerunners to then go ahead and destroy much of humanity.

Fast Forward nine thousand years after the forerunner/human war. Now the forerunners had finally built the halo system and then as a field test used it to destroy what was left of the original human homeworld (during the test they actually accidently released the last alive precursor). Once that was done the Forerunner Master Builder then let the halo system loose on San'Shyuum quarantineed systems destryoing their planets.

After this it seems the plans went wrong and the halo system was used by its AI against the forerunners destroying their civilization. hich ultimatley leaves only humans to be reclaimers by logic as no other race is left. The forerunner books greatly help explain the background here.

Rank

[edit]

"...the Earth soldier Master Chief..." Master Chief is a rank, shouldn't it be Spartan-117, or something? --OGoncho 04:25, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

True, Master Chief Petty Officer is a rank. But Spartan-117 is harder to say, so I just go with "the Master Chief"

?

"...and the fact that the Covenant have not asked humanity to join them..." how does that support the theory that Humans are related to the Forerunners?--Moosh88 07:27, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the assumption here is that they haven't asked us to join them because we are already members. My theory is that time travel is involved, and that Master Chief in some future game travels back in time to activate Halo, and the story comes full circle. --209.203.86.251 21:07, 27 June 2006 (UTC) (Chris Preston)[reply]

I think that the reason that the Covenant have not asked Earth to join them is -logically- that they first have to conquer Humanity first, and then ask. (Naturally, when all traces of human resistance is eliminated, then the Covenant can enslave humanity.) It is how all races became a part of the Covenant to begin with (i.e. the Hunter's race).

Not true. In Conversations of/with the Universe, it shows two Elites speculating at why the Prophets haven't given humanity the option. The other races except the Elites, who, with the Prophets, formed the Covenant. One notable example is how the Hunters had every one of their worlds glassed. With domination iminent, the Prophets offered the Hunters a place in the Covenant, which they accepted. Hence, "No races were enslaved in the making of this interstellar empire."

last paragraph

[edit]

the final paragraph of this page seems a bit sloppy and off topic. I edited it already for gramamar (and improper formatting of book titles) and whatnot. Anyone want to take a look at somehow tie it into the actual page it's on. Right now it seems to only discuss the Forerunners and not the Reclaimers (It isn't not ever stated that a Reclaimer is a forerunner)

Another possibility is that the Forerunners interbred with humans passing on their genes. Master Chief, Johnson, Mobuto, and Commander Keyes would then be genetic descendants of the Forerunners. This is also supported by 343 Guilty Spark's reactions to Master Chief in Halo: Combat Evolved, where he assumes that Master Chief understands everything that has happened on Halo. In the book The Flood, he also states that the Master Chief is the one who activated Halo the first time, "Why do you hesitate to do what you've already done?" This could mean that Master Chief's ancestor was the Forerunner that activated Halo. Also supporting this theory is that in the book The Fall Of Reach, Dr. Halsey chose candidates for the Spartan program based on certain genes they carried. It is possible that those genes are those of the Forerunners. As with everything, this is highly spectlative.

I think that this is all wrong. Rather than an "ancestor" of MC activating Halo for the first time, it is perfectly logical to assume that 343 GS is just mistaking MC for a completly different person, or thing. Judging by the context of the quote, it can be interpreted that 343 GS just got confused, and assumed that MC looked alot like, or had the same type of technology and outward appearance as this other person, or thing.

That has nothing to do with the argument that the Reclaimers, Humans, and Forerunners are related. It should be deleted. Besides, wikipedia is supposed to be a factual database, not a pit of speculation. Take that stuff to the forums.

Another thought:

While in the Library (Halo: Combat Evolved), the Monitor makes the comment that "Work of this kind requires a 'Class 12' suit" and the Master Chief's suit is only a "Class 2". The armor that the Master Chief was wearing could have confused Guilty Spark and led him to believe that the Chief was a Forerunner (since Guilty Spark could not see the Chief because of the armor and thus could not discern his physical characteristics). This could also have led to the "Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done" and "You asked me, if it were my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query my answer has not changed." Since the Monitor thought that the Chief was a Forerunner, he assumed the Chief knew about how the Forerunners were destroyed and such. Scrinwarrior (talk) 04:05, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Original research

[edit]

A lot of the claims made in this article are entirely speculative and unsourced, so I've tagged the article. However, I haven't read the book, so I'm unfamiliar with the material. --Wafulz 03:05, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't worry about that because it is not entirely certain whether or not the Novels are actually canon or not. Many fictional works/novelizations can be interpreted as not canon to the actually established universe (i.e. Star Trek novelizations). -- Dark Observer 23:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, the books are considered canon. Of they weren't, the books probably wouldn't have the Bungie logo on the back.

Genes

[edit]

"Dr. Halsey chose candidates for the Spartan program based on certain genes they carried. It is possible that those genes are those of the Forerunners. As with everything, this is highly speculative.

   * However, the act of having "already done" could be interpreted as simply retrieving the index. Also, Dr. Halsey had no knowledge of the Forerunner's existence (but she could have inadvertently selected Forerunner-descendants based purely on their superior genes.)

"

In the book Ghosts of Onyx, it's stated she chose canidates with certain gens for the Spartan's augmentations. Also related, a sentinal on Onyx refers to another Saprtan as a reclaimer(only to take it back when the Spartan is confused by being called a reclaimer).

I don't think that the Forerunners should be listed as "superior" or "more advanced." Species can be better suited to an environment, but they can't be more advanced. There is no genetic or biological hierarchy of species.

what is with this page?

[edit]

please adhere to wikipedia's policies.

for instance, the bold faced text is unnecessary, there is lots of changes in tone, and its all very poorly written

i say this article needs to be cleaned up, and put proper

I think that this article should be more factual, sporting more excerpts from the books and games and less outright speculation.
