From the horse's mouth

[edit]

One young resident wrote about Nunsthorpe thus:

Grimsby estate, Nunsthorpe was originally known as the garden city, but is now more commonly known as an area of town that is prefered to be avoided. Many Locals are seen biking hurridly through the area in a desperate attempt to get through unscathed. There is a tendency for a young subculture called chavs to be seen loitering on the street corners. Boxing matches have been known to take place in the middle of the Nunsthorpe streets. Most of these accusations are however, unfounded and many natives to the area have a strong sense of community spirit.

The tone of cautious optimism expressed above is echoed in this external page about a youth project to tidy the garden of Nunsthorpe Library.

To do

[edit]

Here are some questions to which I would like to see the main article provide answers:

  • Where is it in Grimby? Is Sutcliffe Avenue the main road through it or Laceby Road? Ie. is it south of Laceby Road or both sides of it?
  • What is the origin of the name?
  • How many people? What area in square km?
  • Is it a council estate? When was it built?
  • Is it houses, low-rise flats or tower blocks?
  • We know it has a library. What else has it got: schools, shops, pubs, churches, etc.? Do all the shops put steel shutters over their windows when they are closed? !
  • What sort of households: two-parent families, one-parent families, singles?
  • What ethnic mix: White / Afro-carribean / Asian?

On the last two points only comment if they are markedly different from Grimsby as an whole. Eg. do you think Social Services tend to dump single-parent families in tower blocks miles from the schools and shops? If you think it is much the same as Grimsby, then put the info. in the Grimsby article.

==Crime

Nunsthorpe

[edit]

I have posted a request on the user page of the contributor who added the following comment, and requested a source:

"85% of crimes reported in Grimsby between the years 1990-1999 were committed by residents of this area."

Also, I assume that it should be crimes solved (or convictions) rather than crimes reported. TigerShark 22:07, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
