History_of_Gdansk - Known as Danzig to all Polish Jews? I guess only to German-speaking Jews.--Emax 13:19, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Untitled

[edit]
The vernacular of Polish Jews was Yiddish, which is a Middle-Germanic language they brought along when escaping persecutions in the Rhineland over the Black Plague. I cannot prove that Danzig was used exclusively, but it is highly likely that Danzig was favored, especially by those involved in international commerce in the Baltic Sea. Isn't the Biographical material still a bit "stubbish"? Fintor 08:19, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It may be too short, but it's not a stub (3-10 lines is the stub criterion). JFW | T@lk 12:04, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gdansk/Danzig

[edit]

sorry about the edit, I did suspect there was an underlying reason for the strange wording before I made It, but I would think that it is proper to call it Danzig, without the reference to how it was known in the Jewish community, it would probably have been known as Gdansk only to Poles.Yellowmellow45 23:11, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
