Guadalajara offensive

[edit]

Hi! Great work on the Guadalajara offensive. I've delisted it from WP:CU -- hope you agree -- and moved the discussion to the talk page. One note: it seems you moved the page from Battle of Guadalajara by cut and paste, which means the article history is now split between both. In future, you might want to use the move function, see meta:Help:Renaming (moving) a page. Cheers, Rvollmert 07:35, 2004 Aug 27 (UTC)

Catholic Church in Taiwan

[edit]

Hi! Just wanna say good work on the Catholic Church in Taiwan. BTW How do you know much about Catholic church in Taiwan, while you were born in Norway? Good Luck in your study!!!Roscoe x 20:59, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Since I work for the Catholic Church, I have access to the information I needed, and having worked on the project Chronology of Erections of Catholic Dioceses and Other Territorial Jurisdictions for about almost five years I've learned where to look for it. Thanks for the compliment. Cnyborg 19:36, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

A Request

[edit]

Over at Culture of the United Kingdom one of the main things that is stopping us from putting it forward as a featured article candidate is the fact that the art section is so small (one small paragraph). You have listed yourself on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by fields of interest as someone with an interest in art. Would you be able to pop over there at some point and help us to expand the section please? Many thanks. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 11:57, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I'll try; British art is not my main field, but I might be able to expand the paragraph over the next couple of days. Cnyborg 12:04, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Archaeology project

[edit]

Hi Cnyborg. I see you've been doing lots of great work on interwiki-ing some Roman Britain articles and have an interest in archaeology. I though't I'd alert you to the new Wikipedia:WikiProject_Archaeology and am wondering if you'd like to join up? Any areas of the subject you think need more Wikipedia coverage or other ideas you have would be most welcome. adamsan 14:36, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Translation

[edit]

Hi there!

That's some huge amount of translation of Irish-related articles into Norwegian you've done! I feel quite guilty for not translating some more into Irish!!!

zoney talk 11:39, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I've only just started. I wanted to get the basic framework, the counties, in place first, and then start on towns and villages. At the same time, I'm working on Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so that I get some variety (not much variety, but enough to keep me going). I'm planning to make interwikis on ga: for the articles; I've done that on cy: for the Wales-related articles I've written. Cnyborg 14:44, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Howdy and thank you!

[edit]

Just wanted to say thank you for translating Southam. I didn't expect a town with a population of 5000 to be translated so soon! I can see that you are frequent contributer - keep up the good work! GregRobson 19:43, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I happened to do the Southam article because I wrote about Stratford-upon-Avon, then did the district that town is in, and then found some other places in the district. Actually, just before I translated the Southam article I wrote an article on no:Napton-on-the-Hill, pop. 976. I'll write an article on a village with three rather mangy cows, a dachshund named Colin and a small hen in its late forties if I come across it and it fills in a red link. (for the culturally challenged, that was a reference to Black Adder. Cnyborg 20:15, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Ah, a fellow Black Adder fan! :)

I'm sure the people of Norway will be fascinated to learn about Napton-on-the-Hill :) G-Man 20:26, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

You never know; some day it might be of vital importance to the security of the nation that the goverment find information on Napton-on-the-Hill immediately, and then I'll be the hero of the day ;-) ~Seriously speaking, since I'm building up as complete a picture as possible of the geography of the British Isles, every little place matters... Cnyborg 21:36, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Likewise, thank you for translating the article about my home town Aylsham, which I originated a couple of years ago. It's good to know that the people of Norway will have the opportunity of reading about this lovely town in the middle of North Norfolk. Many towns here, although not Aylsham, were first settled by the Vikings – but in this case (I believe) it was the Danish variety! – Agendum 20:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see it's appreciated. Writing about towns and villages in the UK is one of the more interesting things I do on Wikipedia. While much of it is just translation work, I do occasionally put a little extra effort into it, and a few articles are longer and, I dare say, better than the English ones. My brother lives in England, so when I visit him I try to see as many of the places that I've written about as possible. He lives in Milton Keynes, so Norfolk is just within range for a day trip, and I'm actually hoping to go there next summer. Cnyborg 22:37, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure were Son is, but we were at Hamar in Hedmark just six weeks ago, overlooking Mjøsa (and, of course, flew into Oslo Lufthavn) – it's a lovely part of your beautiful country, physically very much like East Anglia (east of England), where we are located. But next time we hope to take in a few mountains and fjords! – Agendum 23:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You might have flown over Son, as one of the routes into Oslo Lufthavn is right over here. It's about 50 km south of Oslo, by the Oslo Fjord. I've got lots of family in the Hamar area; my maternal grandmother was from a small farm outside the town, and I love that part of the country. Cnyborg 23:40, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Republics

[edit]

Need your help and/or advice. The British Wikipedian Republican Party sought fit to delete Wikinfo:Classical definition of republic from Wikipedia. There is a terrible brouhaha at Talk:Republic. They won't even allow an external link! SimonP really doesn't know what he is doing. They deleted the Classical definition of republic and created mixed government and politeia instead. The official title of mixed government is a Republic and the Romans translated "politiea" as Republic. And then to top it off the new article Classical republicanism doesn't refer to the Classical republics of Crete, Sparta, Solonic Athens, or Rome but to Machiavelli's ideology. How can that be when Venice in the 13th century instituted a mixed government and called herself a "Republic".

With Jwrosenwieg and Kim Bruning there was a tacit agreement a year ago to have republic be the modern meaning and a [Classical definition of republic] to describe the ancient republics of Hellas and Rome and their influence. To say the least the "Republic section" is all messed up. We need some clarification. I have new information but User:Snowspinner won't let me bring this back up for undelete. (I do grant that a little bit of the Classical definition is original but the rest is not.) I will not let Sparta be called anything but a republic! I will not let the British wikipedian modern republicans strip Sparta, (my heritage and roots) of her rightful name. She is a Classical republic and needs to be called such! At the least, where is the damage in having an external link?WHEELER 15:31, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Translations

[edit]

I'd like to join those above in thanking you for all the great translation work you're doing. I often find myself looking at an article on a small British town with a little Norsk link at the side, and sure enough the Norwegian article is yours. I also know Southam and Napton and it is good to know they are of interest beyond these shores. I spent ages creating stubs on about 400 villages in County Durham so I share your view that "every little place matters". I look forward to the day when there's an article on every town and village in the world, all with a whole string of interwiki links! Keep up the good work. — Trilobite (Talk) 10:58, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. It's always nice to hears that one's work is appreciated. I find working on villages and towns in Britain and Ireland very rewarding, it's I can keep working on a single subject, and at the same time find great variety, from prehistorical Britain to modern features such as the Londo Underground - whenever I get bored with one thing I can just follow another link and add another article on the geography or history of the islands. translation of nauru-related newspaper article

[edit]

Hi Cnyborg,
I just wanted to ask how you are doing with the nauru-related newspaper article I sent you. Greetings -- CdaMVvWgS 12:16, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, haven't seen anything from you. Did you send it by e-mail? Cnyborg 16:51, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I did. Anyway, here's the link to the article: http://www.sydhav.no/Nauru/artikler.htm Send me your translation to naoero[AT]gmail[DOT]com ([AT] = @, [DOT] = .) Thanks again and greetings -- CdaMVvWgS 17:48, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much! If you want, you can make an article under Eigigu with the text you translated. Thanks and Greetings -- CdaMVvWgS 08:11, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You might take a look at Tiberius Junius Brutus. It is up for Vfd - and smells to me like a hoax - but a classicist would be useful.--Doc (?) 13:14, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tnx for the info, I replied at Commons, you may want to withdraw the deletion request (that's 1994 not 1944 ;p).-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  00:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed it, sorry. Cnyborg 07:35, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ansari

[edit]

Why did you delete Ansaris' image?? Of course it's a NASA image, see here. [1] Don´t do it again, ok? Machocarioca 07:44, 20 September 2006 (UTC)machocarioca[reply]

The image series is tagged at NASAs site with Photo Credit:Roscosmos / Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. NASA has a lot of external images on it's site. I've tagged it for deletion to let another admin evaluate it. Cnyborg 10:16, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Henrietta Wozniak

[edit]

Why should Henrietta Wozniak redirect to Henrietta_Maria_of_France? - Nunh-huh 02:04, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At 1625, it states that Henrietta Wozniak married Charles I of England on 13 June that year. Since he married Henrietta Maria of France that day, and a search turned up a few other instances of that name being used for her, I made a redirect. Cnyborg 11:19, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be a hoax. The "Wozniak" was inserted on 12:59, 13 June 2006 by Yv5erp, who has edited Wikipedia three times, each of them vandalism. Henrietta Maria of France was not known as Henrietta Wozniak; and my Google search finds such "gems" as her being "ancestor of the great Steve Wozniak" and Wikipedia mirror sites. I'm going to correct the mistaken article at 1625 and delete the misleading redirect. If you find some actually reliable source in which she bears that name, it can be reinstated (but there are no such sources). - Nunh-huh 18:58, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I fell for it. I've searched again, and the serious sources that I can find all seem to have copied the information from enwiki (it's been there so long that quite a lot of sites have copied it) Thanks for cleaning up the mess; the bright side it that at least an old piece of vandalism was discovered. Cnyborg 19:08, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm just sad it took us so long to find :( - Nunh-huh 19:09, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
