dude i think its about time you grew a brain. i dont like joe dirt, and i keep getting rid of the very povvy brief comeback that ppl keep putting in there. its an encyclopedia article, and i totally agree with you that the joe dirt bullshit should be removed, but hey. if some idiots want to keep it in there, i at least want to remove the pov, and will continue doing so if people revert it. So i think you have your stories mixed up, or are confusing me with someone else. Wifki 12:57, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought You said:it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Hey MaxPower: I have fixed the problem with the Supreme Court of Canada Courtroom by replacing the old image (Image:Courtroom.jpg), which I couldn't remember the source of, with a new image that comes from the SSC website for which the site grants non-commercial use (Image:SSC-Courtroom.jpg). Before I figured how to do that, I had an aborted attempt to upload the same image (Image:Photo2tn.jpg). I would like to delete Image:Courtroom.jpg and Image:Photo2tn.jpg, but don't know how to do that. If you want to proceed with that, that would be fine. Sunray 20:03, 2004 Dec 13 (UTC)

Image:Karoly

[edit]

You said: I came across Image:Courbet.karoly.550pix.jpg. It appears you got it from webshots? Perhaps you know how they deal with copyright over there and can add the appropriate copyright tag.
Since this painting was done in 1865, way over a hundred years ago, any photographic copy of it is now free of copyright. So I have added a PD tag. Thanks for your work on image tagging - Adrian Pingstone 22:09, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Canada's political party's logos

[edit]

Nice catch. After doing a little research, I've found out that Canadian political party logos are not Canadian government symbols, and the are copyrighted. So I've put the {{logo}} tag on them. Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 21:19, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

Dainamo, I've been helping tag the large number of untagged images and I came across this image you uploaded: Image:CowesWeek.jpg. I am no copyright expert, but does the Isle of Wight Tourism site allow use of its images? I have tagged the image unverified for now, but could this possibly be a copyright violation? Also I see that you live *on* the Isle of Wight, maybe you have a photo of Cowes Week that you took this year and could upload that under a GFDL. Leave me a message with your thoughts, thanks! --MaxPower 18:52, 2004 Dec 17 (UTC)

In answer to your question, the organization's site states permission for use of the picture in any other publication provided they were credited, hence the caption on the page. I will add this to the image page for future reference. And yes, I want to replace this anyway as since Wikipedia stopped allowing picture to be enlarged, this is out of scale on the article and I have some better shots taken myself. Kind regards Dainamo 19:02, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Untagged Ribosome Pictures

[edit]

According to the image descriptipages I made when I uploaded those images, I got them from nupedia. So they should be available under the GFDL. You'd better double-check the nupedia license to be sure. -- Dominus 18:06, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately some later editor didn't find it so good and removed it from the page coyote :(

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum uses a very thin net on several of their exibits. The coyote's exhibit in particular is a quite large piece of original sonoran desert surrounded by said net. After several visits in which i didn't see the coyotes at all, one afternoon they came very close to the net. I took the picture with an old Canon A-1, and a Vivitar Zoom. --AstroNomer 00:35, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)

Newark Riots

[edit]

I don't exactly recall where I found the riots pic, but I'm sure it was a public domain site. dinopup

Thanks for your commeny. the image was downloaded directly from here, which I did not come across a copyright notice. Please let me know if you find any copright infringement so I can delete the image. :) Ktsquare (talk) 10:29, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Rolle's theorem picture

[edit]

Saw your notice. Well the two images at Image:Rolles_theorem.jpg and Image:Rolles_theorem_2.jpg are both the same, and my old image has already been deleted. So you's have to ask the present author to remove one of them... Mine is already lost. Nixdorf 19:10, 2005 Jan 21 (UTC)

[edit]

Actually, those images have been on Wikipedia for quite a while now, probably at least a year, and no one's said anything. However, I got the Octapad image from someone's eBay ad who was selling it since I couldn't find a decent image of one anywhere at the time. It was a bad quality amature shot and I even touched it up Photoshop and submitted it for the page. I honestly don't know how to copyright that. I guess since it wasn't an official image, just used to sell the octapad on eBay, and I did some retouching to make it look better I'd guess consider it fairuse?

The RE Space Echo image I used appears on several websites that talk about the unit, it's from a Roland advertisement and that was also the only decent image of the space echo I could find. Same pretty much goes for the others, the SH1000 image was the only good one I could find, and the D50 I found several of the same image on misc music websites that have entries for them so I considered them fairuse I guess. Unverified images

[edit]
Now who's going to deal with all of these images? Could it be a new project? Certainly one that would take a lot more diligence than the previous one.

Actually, I've (sort-of} started. I've been going through and listing all unverified orphans on IfD, just a few at a time. Seems like a good first step. Then we'll have to make a project of weeding through the used unverifieds.

I imagine a project page where ten are listed each day. After a week (or 10 days, or a fortnight, or whatever seems fair), if nothing has been done about an image, it gets deleted. During it's time being "on display", people can see if they can determine the copyright status, or they can suggest replacements. Seem like a good idea?

Either way, before I get done with the unverified orphans, I suspect a new batch of untagged images will be generated. – Quadell (talk) (help) 16:24, Jan 24, 2005 (UTC)

Status report

[edit]

Greetings, General. It's Corporal Q with a status report. I've been slogging my way through the unverified images, sir. This includes listing orphans on IFD, tagging images that can be better tagged, and handing choice images over to the sleuths. I just finished the D's, which by my estimate means I'm one fourth done. Just tooting my own horn a little, sir. Toot toot, as it were. Well, I'm headed back to the trenches. Over and out. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 15:37, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)

Oh look. I found another whilst I was tagging & putting on pages. --Tagishsimon (talk)

Image deletion

[edit]

Greetings! Over at the Commons, some images I've uploaded are being considered for deletion. I'd be interested in hearing your honest opinion on the matter there. Thanks! – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 13:07, Feb 21, 2005 (UTC)

Hey Max. I left a request for you at Wikipedia:Image recreation requests#Other. I hope you're enjoying spring! – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 21:21, Feb 25, 2005 (UTC)

You're right. Please ignore me, as I've clearly suffering from a self-enduced lobotomy. Good to have you back, by the way! 15:50, Feb 28, 2005 (UTC)

Return of the Untagged Image project

[edit]

You were kind enough to contribute to the Wikipedia:Untagged images project; I beg to draw your attention to part 2 of the project - there are about 12,000 more images in need of tagging. Any assistance you could provide would be most welcome. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk)

stock.xchng

[edit]

Hi again, Max. I'd like to replace Image:Zither.jpg with the large photo here (which you suggested), but I don't have a stock.xchng account. Do you have one, and could you upload the large version of the image? – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 00:02, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

  • Hello. I went to that site, and it is still down. However, I looked on Google and I wish to show you this link, [1], which can be of assistance to find an image of the Zither. Zscout370 03:23, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
