This needs updates for different meanings of "arc". See all the links pointing into this page. I don't know how to add more meanings without messing up the redirect.

Removing redirection, making disambg page, for now, these two meaning of 'arc',someone will have to add more (like a physical arc for example ?)

Proposed merge with ARC

[edit]

I see that you are using the prefix arc for a language especially in your wiki webs? It would be useful if you explain or add the arc meaning

I don't think a good idea to merge these two disambig pages together. Each are rather long, and cover two different areas (abbreviations and nonabbreviations). It's difficult enough for readers to find the link they're looking for, I think that making a single very long page would make that needlessly more difficult. --Interiot 22:56, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Having both the word and the abbreviation on a single dab page is standard (see Bob) and both need to be cleaned up significantly, and with a good TOC, finding the particular reference a user is looking for isn't a big deal. --Nekura 23:35, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In Bob, the vast majority of the entries are acronym expansions (there are only 7 entries that aren't), so there's very little reason to split it up. In contrast, i think Arc and ARC are both quite large and non-overlapping enough to warrant separate pages. I agree with Interiot that mashing them together will just make it needlessly more difficult to find the meaning you're looking for.
Viewed another way: the only sensible way to merge them into one article (as far as i can see) would be to have separate sections for the acronym and the word; and since both would be large enough to be constitute separate articles on their own, why not do just that? --Piet Delport 09:26, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Bob had significantly more entries then that, I think a lot of them disapeared with all the vandalism and reverts that have been going on on that page, but oh well, I was just suggesting it. --Nekura 13:51, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would vote they be merged together to prevent confusion between those who may type Arc when they meant ARC. Also, the two may be used intergangeably, especially when referring to organizations such as the former Association for Retarded Citizens. Their name used to be the ARC, but for many chapters it is no longer an acronym but simply the word The Arc. --Pylon 16:20, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I too would have voted for a merge, since some entries in ARC are not abbreviations, but are just UPPERCASE uses of arc. These include ARC International, ARC Macro Language, ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, Inc., etc. Furthermore, some entries are both UPPER and lowercase, such as ARC (file format). Should we reopen the merge proposal? +mt 18:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Page_naming_conventions, all capitalizations of the same term should be on one disambiguation page. So, I'm going to go ahead an be bold and do it! -- Natalya 20:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
