Super Mario Bros. DX is a remake of Super Mario Bros. --ZachKudrna18@yahoo.com

Super Mario Bros DX Not "Deluxe"

[edit]

Super Mario Bros. DX is easier to hear about than Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It's better to abbreviate. --ZachKudrna18@yahoo.com

On Wikipedia, it's usually reccomended that the official name is used instead of the abbreviation. However, there are some exceptions such as the Nintendo DS --TBCO M G! 03:57, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the game was not untouched

[edit]

The game did have some minor changes, such as the layout dosen't have the name of the character, the pipe sound appears when coming out of a pipe, the screen can scroll up and down, and Firey Luigi is now green. You can also go back a bit back farther in the level. BackInBlack 12:34, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can only scroll back a bit because tghe programming equivalent wasn't changed for the screen to halt between NES and GBC.

Another thing that was forgotten on this article is the screen size, the GBC port can only display 12 16x16 sprites, while the NES can display 16 on screen. This has a large impact on gameplay. I'm adding this change to the Main Article, revert if you find it false.--Mofomojo 02:36, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

World 9 and A-D through a cheat device?

[edit]

I've never heard of this before. Can anyone verify it, perhaps also post the code(s)?

According to gscentral.org, the following code is the level modifier for both SMB and TLL: 01??63C1 The question marks have to be replaced with the level numbers in hexadecimal minus one (thus 00 is stage 1-1, 01 is stage 1-2, 04 is stage 2-1, and 1D is stage 8-2). Numbers 20 to 33 belong to worlds 9 and A-D.

Minus World?

[edit]

Does this version include minus world? If it does, then I'm terrible at getting to it... Cubed05 01:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages are for discussing the article, not the subject. However, while I'm here, the answer is no, you can't access Minus World. --LuigiManiac 01:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Toy Box Calendar

[edit]

Does anyone have any idea why April 21, 1989 has a default maker reading "A Peaceful Day"? After doing a little research all I can come up with is that it was the same day as the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989. Omarshat 01:52, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe something happened with the original game, or another Nintendo game then. 70.244.107.161 21:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Super Mario Land was released in Japan on April 21, 1989. --62.224.107.111 (talk) 02:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Supermariobrosdeluxe.jpg

[edit]

Image:Supermariobrosdeluxe.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"Luigi Land"

[edit]

my copy of SMB deluxe had "Luigi Land" instead of "for super player". It was selected by picking luigi's head which was to the right of Boo(for the race boo feature). Has anyone else had this? and if so, shouldn't we mention it? Mit kebes (talk) 03:06, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay

[edit]
  • "Deluxe features largely similar platforming gameplay as the original, with the player able to play as Mario or Luigi through the 32 levels of Super Mario Bros., referred in the game as Original 1985." - should be "Deluxe features platforming gameplay largely similar to the original, allowing players to control Mario or Luigi through the 32 levels of Super Mario Bros., referred in the game as Original 1985." checkY
  • "The game features the same pixel graphics of the original with a smaller resolution to accommodate the screen of the Game Boy Color." - should be "The game retains the pixel graphics of the original but with a smaller resolution to fit the screen of the Game Boy Color." checkY
  • "The Challenge mode ends stages with an evaluation of player scores and collected items." - should be "In Challenge Mode, stages end with an evaluation of players' scores and collected items." checkY
  • "Challenge Mode is an additional mode that allows players to replay competed stages with the objective of recording the highest score and locating items across the stage, including five red coins and a hidden Yoshi egg in each stage." - should be "Challenge Mode is an additional mode that allows players to replay completed stages with the objective of achieving the highest score and locating items across the stage, including five red coins and a hidden Yoshi egg in each stage." checkY
  • "Upon completion, Toad will then provide the player with a rating on how they performed in terms of reaching a threshold score, collecting the five red coins in a stage, and discovering the hidden Yoshi." - should be "Upon completion, Toad will provide the player with a rating based on their performance in reaching a threshold score, collecting the five red coins in a stage, and discovering the hidden Yoshi." checkY
  • "The 'Vs.'[...]" - just remove the quotation marks around "Vs." checkY
  • "The largest addition is the ability to play Super Mario Bros. 2 when the player reaches a minimum score of 300,000 points in the original mode." - should be "The main addition is the ability to play Super Mario Bros. 2 when the player reaches a minimum score of 300,000 points in the original mode." checkY
  • "These include a calendar allows players to set marks or notes for dates between 1999 and 2999." - should be "These include a calendar that allows players to set marks or notes for dates between 1999 and 2999." checkY
  • "The Yoshi Finder scrolls through random levels displays a frame in which a hidden Yoshi can be found in the Challenge mode." - should be "The Yoshi Finder scrolls through random levels and displays a frame in which a hidden Yoshi can be found in Challenge Mode." checkY

Development

[edit]
  • "Deluxe was the first game directed by Suzuki, with Nintendo assigning his team to recreate Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Game Boy Color 'with a few additions'." - should be "Deluxe marked Suzuki's directorial debut, with Nintendo assigning his team the task of recreating Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Game Boy Color, along with a few additional features." checkY
  • "Suzuki stated that the development process had little pressure as 'no matter what I did, the game was guaranteed to be fun and sell very well.'" - should be "Suzuki stated that the development process had little pressure. He believed that regardless of their actions, the game was guaranteed to be enjoyable and sell well." checkY
  • "A one-level prototype of Deluxe was developed and demonstrated prior to the commercial release of the Game Boy Color." - should be rephrased with "Prior to the commercial release of the Game Boy Color, a one-level prototype of Deluxe was developed and demonstrated." exclamation mark  Taken a different approach, the status quo and above maintain passive rather than active tense. Focused the sentence on the development of the prototype, then that it was prior to release.
  • "full colour" - should be "full-colour" checkY
  • "[...] and in the United Kingdom in December 1999." - add a comma after United Kingdom "[...] and in the United Kingdom, in December 1999." exclamation mark  Not sure about this one, I'd say it's a short sentence that doesn't benefit from adding commas for flow or readability.

Sales

[edit]
  • "According to NPD sales charts, Deluxe was the fourteenth best-selling video game on all platforms in the United States in 2000." - should be "According to NPD sales charts, Deluxe ranked as the fourteenth best-selling video game across all platforms in the United States in 2000." checkY
  • "peaking in third place [...]" - should be "it peaked in third place [...]" checkY

Reviews

[edit]
  • "The additional modes and features were praised by critics." - should be "Critics praised the additional modes and features." checkY
  • "Craig Harris of IGN praised the inclusion of a save feature, unlockable items and secrets, but gave special mention to the versus mode, describing it as a 'cool use' of the original engine and 'worth the purchase of another cartridge just for this feature alone'." - should be "Craig Harris of IGN praised the inclusion of a save feature, unlockable items, and secrets. He gave special mention to the versus mode, describing it as a 'cool use' of the original engine and 'worth the purchase of another cartridge just for this feature alone'." checkY
  • "Reviewers praised the faithfulness and of quality of the game's port of Super Mario Bros.." - should be "Reviewers praised the faithfulness and quality of the game's port of Super Mario Bros." checkY
  • "Some reviewers noted that the smaller screen" - should be "Some reviewers noted the smaller screen" checkY

Retrospective reception

[edit]
  • "Describing the game as a 'comprehensive overhaul', Jeremy Parish of USGamer stated the game added 'considerably more' to the original." - should be "Jeremy Parish of USGamer described the game as a 'comprehensive overhaul', stating that it added 'considerably more' to the original." checkY

References

[edit]
  • Missing reference in the last sentence of the first paragraph of "Additions" section. checkY It's just the GameSpot source, so I've moved the reference to the end.
