Twenty o eight

[edit]

There should be info on him being one of a few people who uses the twenty prefix in pronouncing the year. Jungworld.com (talk) 22:59, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reasons for Fame

[edit]

It seems a little silly to me to say that Charles Osgood is "also famous for doing the voice of Horton in the movie 'Horton Hears a Who.'" This is a radio commentator who has been working for more than 50 years; "Horton Hears a Who" is a lark he did on the side.

"Newsbreak"

[edit]

[The following should be inserted, probably after the second paragraph of the Radio and Television section, once it has received scrutiny and citations are supplied.]

Charles Osgood's daily program was known as "Newsbreak" from its inception (1971?) until the late 1980s [need to find exact date]. These ran two or three times, at ~6:40, [7:40?] and 8:40 am [need to check]. Unlike the Osgood File, he included several shorter items within the three minutes, segueing deftly from one to the next. At the same time he presented The Osgood File as a distinct program, at ~12:40 pm. At a specific point [late 1980s, supra], the Newsbreak title and format was replaced by The Osgood File, which then ran at its current times: usually 6:40, 7:40, 8:40, and 9:40 (usually 1-2 minutes later in practice). (When CBS started airing its daily half-hour financial program--from 9:30 to 10:00 am-- the last time slot was moved to 10:40.) Unlike Newsbreak, each Osgood File addressed just one news item in slightly greater depth.

[I know most of the foregoing from personal listening and memory over these 40 years; need help in getting citations as noted above.] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.67.248 (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
